How much writing is there at Capella?
A great deal, in APA format, in both formats of study.
Capella assesses through substantial written pieces judged against published scoring guides. There are no quizzes to carry you. If writing is the part you dread, that belongs in the school decision rather than being discovered in week three.
What the work actually looks like
An assessment is typically a structured written piece addressing several competencies at once, with sources, in APA. It is closer to a short professional report than to an essay, and it is judged criterion by criterion rather than holistically.
Some courses also require a recorded video assessment through Kaltura — still marked against a written scoring guide, on reasoning and structure rather than production values.
Why this suits some nurses very well
If you can write, Capella is unusually transparent about what it wants. The scoring guide is published before you start, so the target is visible. Nurses who read it first and structure to it tend to do well quickly, which in a session-billed format means finishing cheaply.
And why it does not suit others
