When can you actually start at Capella?
Monthly. There is no semester calendar to wait for.
That removes the dead months a term-based school imposes on a decision made in the wrong part of the year — and it is also why enrolment conversations can feel urgent when nothing actually is.
The genuine advantage
If you decide in February that you want to do this, a quarterly school may not let you begin until April. Capella will usually let you begin within weeks. For a nurse who has finally made the decision after two years of thinking about it, that matters.
The quiet cost of it
There is always another start close enough to make "why not now" the obvious answer. Nothing improper about that, but it compresses the time in which you would otherwise settle the questions that actually decide how this goes.
A start you can always have is a start that can wait four weeks. Use those four weeks on:
- A transfer credit assessment, which is free and changes your timeline and total more than anything else.
- Your employer's approved-school list, which frequently settles the school choice outright.
- Preceptor supply where you live, if your track has a clinical requirement.
What actually delays a start
Almost always documents rather than decisions. Transcripts from a school you attended years ago are the slowest step, so request them first and let everything else move around them.
How long does the application take?
The form itself is quick. The waiting is on transcripts, licence verification and the background check. Start the transcript request first and the rest tends to follow.
Can I defer a start if something comes up?

Is there a best month to start?
Not structurally. The better question is whether your credit has been assessed and your placement route understood, because starting a month later with both settled beats starting now with neither.
